      Haapsalu Castle - Bishop's Castle with the cathedral, located in the center of Haapsalu in western Estonia. The castle was founded in the XIII century as the center of Bishopric of Ösel-Wiek and until the XVII century, was used as a fortification. According to the legend, during the August full moon on the inside wall of the chapel there is an image of the White Lady.

      Construction, expansion and reconstruction of the castle lasted for several centuries, and the architecture changed depending on the development of weapons. Today the castle area exceeds 30 thousand square meters, the thickness of its walls from 1.2 to 1.8 meters. The maximum height wall - 15 meters. In the western part of the castle is a 29-meter high watchtower beginning of the XIII century, later used as a bell tower.

      Now in the castle is open serving the church, museum and cafe. The museum is particularly interesting - there exhibited a unique collection of medieval weapons and ammunition. The castle grounds are regularly held cultural events: Festival White Ladies, concerts and theatrical performances.
